Improvise. Adapt. Overcome: Quarantine yourself but not your business

It is undeniable that coronavirus is affecting the lives of many, including business owners. People are self-isolating, which is a great measure to slow down the infection rate. However, many businesses are slowing down too. Over 60% of Australian businesses are affected by COVID-19 according to Roy Morgan’s research.

Hence, this raises a question. Should businesses just stop their activities altogether?

The answer is NO. Of course not!

At a difficult situation like this, businesses should not only come together to show what they do in response to COVID-19 but also engage with the audience. According to the Global Web Index, almost 45% of people are spending more time on social media. This is reasonable because social media is a way to keep in touch with their loved ones, stay up to date with the news, and of course, a source of content to see when the boredom is at its peak.

Therefore, regular social media content is necessary to keep in touch with your customers. But don’t focus solely on advertising your products. Create conversations, engage with the audience, take this as a chance to listen to their feedback, and learn more about what the customers want right now. Perhaps, it can be the time to create accounts on other social media platform such as the current rising star, Tik Tok.

Now, is regular posting on social media enough? No, it’s not!

Personalised service will be crucial since it shows that the businesses care for the customers. For example, Hilton is offering cancellation at no charge for both existing and new bookings that are booked or scheduled to arrive before 30th June 2020, Dominos and Uber are offering contactless delivery, LinkedIn is offering its courses for free, and many more. Therefore, this is another way to retain the existing customer base and attract new customers.

Consider taking this as an opportunity to evaluate your business. For example, the website may need a makeover, the keywords used in SEO might need a change, or the business’ strengths might need to be highlighted for you to create a plan to utilise them. Speaking of a plan, businesses can also create a plan to celebrate when the pandemic is over. For example, a celebration campaign to overcome the struggle during COVID-19.

Therefore, stopping the businesses’ activities should not be in the business dictionary. Instead, improvise, adapt, and overcome. It is important to isolate at home but don’t isolate the business from its customers!
